Mandatory Home Maintenance Checklist

As a new homeowner, you should know that your house needs to be maintained regularly, and depending on the season, you will need to look up certain elements at home – not only the interior space but also the exterior space.

We have listed below some home maintenance tips that you need to look out for every year to make things easier for you.

Fix Your Lawn

Ideally, you should assess your house for maintenance at the start of spring. For instance, when it comes to opting for a spring cleanup, which starts from your lawn. That said, you might want to mow your lawn and keep the weeds off the bay.

If you have never mowed the lawn yourself, you might want to call a professional lawn service and get your lawn fixed before the summer hits you. Besides, you must also assess your house in the summer for any potential electric repairs, such as your ceiling fans.

You must ensure that they are running anticlockwise so that the air is pushed straight down to generate a cooling effect. Else, the warm air will get rotated in the room, and you won’t feel cool in the summer. The exact opposite is true for the winter – you will want to ensure that the fan is running clockwise so that you can make the most of the warm air in your house.

Assess Windows & Doors

When it comes to the windows and doors, you can do a couple of things. Firstly, you must assess the windows and doors for any potential gaps. We are also referring to the tiniest gaps that can serve as a threshold for the summer pests to enter your house. We are referring to the tiniest bugs and even the ants who can wriggle themselves inside your house and wreak havoc.

You can seal the gaps in the windows and doors yourself by caulking. Another potential benefit of sealing the gaps in the windows and doors is that you can ensure that no cool air enters your house in the winter and that the cool air doesn’t escape your house in the summer.

However, you will also have to call a professional HVAC repair service to ensure that your house’s heating and cooling system is running in its best condition.

Assess the Roof

Another potential area of the house that many homeowners neglect is the roof. You will have to make it a point to assess the roof of your house at least once or twice a year. It also depends on the regional climate and the weather conditions of where you live.

For instance, if you live in an area with loads of storms, there is a great chance that shingles or tile must be missing from the roof. Besides, you must also assess your roof for any potentially cracked tiles as these can damage the structure of your house.

We recommend flying a drone over your house to ensure that things are running right inside and outside your house. A roof assessment is crucial to ensure that you won’t have to adopt extreme measures, such as roof replacement.
