5 Picturesque Waterfalls Near Hyderabad to Visit in 2021

Hyderabad amazes tourists with its several tourist attractions ranging from historical monuments and serene lakes to amusement parks and shopping bazaars. While it is common for tourists to dedicate their whole time in Hyderabad to exploring its great number of interesting places, we recommend that you also add a visit to other beautiful spots located close to the city, say waterfalls, to your Hyderabad itinerary to make your holiday even more memorable. Ethipothala Waterfalls:

One of the most spectacular waterfalls near Hyderabad, Ethipothala is the union of three streams, namely, Chandravanka Vagu, Nakkala Vagu, and Tummala Vagu, gracefully falling from a height of 70 feet into a lagoon. Set in a serene spot surrounded by lush greenery, this place is also great for trekking and camping by the falls. Do check out the crocodile breeding center in the pond created by the falls and visit Dattatreya Temple and Ranganathaswamy Temple. You could also explore the prehistoric caves that stretch all the way to Srisailam.

Kuntala Falls:

Nestled in the dense forests of Adilabad, Kuntala falls are the highest waterfalls in Telangana with a height of 200 feet. Originating from the Kadam River, water gushes through two steps from a rocky platform and it appears as two separate falls after a heavy downpour in the monsoon. Legend has it that the falls got its name from the mythological character Shakuntala who used to bathe here. To catch the entire view of the falls, hike down the 400 steps from the entry point to the bottom of the falls. Don’t be tempted to go near the pool as the slippery surface near the banks could be dangerous.

Bheemuni Paadam:

Situated in Warangal, Bheemuni Paadam is among the picturesque waterfalls near Hyderabad. The naturally formed rock over which the water cascades looks like the footprint of Bheema (one of the Pandava brothers) and hence, the name. The sight of Bheemuni Paadam falls is breathtaking during sunrise/ sunset when the rainbow hues add a mystical beauty to the waterfalls falling from a height of 70 feet. Other tourist attractions near the falls include idols of Lord Shiva and Nagadevatha (where devotees perform pujas), peaceful lakes, and a cave said to be 10 km long.

Kanakai Waterfalls:

Boasting serene locales, trekking opportunities, plus a temple dedicated to Maa Kanaka Durga, Kanakai waterfalls (also called Kanakadurga waterfalls) attract peace seekers, adventure enthusiasts, and religious tourists alike. Located at a distance of 35 km from Kuntala falls, Kanakai is a rushing stream plunging from a cliff into a huge pool. This area is also home to two more waterfalls called Bandrev Falls and Cheekati Gundam Falls. Enjoy a relaxing swim in the pool or climb to the clifftop to catch panoramic views of the beautiful rock formations and verdant vegetation around the falls.

Sahastrakund Waterfalls:

Formed by the Penganga River, Sahastrakund falls is situated in the Nanded district of Maharashtra. If you are looking to take a break from the fast-paced life to spend some time in the lap of nature, then this waterfall near Hyderabad is the place to be! The highlight of Sahastrakund falls is the unique pattern of the black rocks surrounding the falls that gleam like metal as water flows over them. One can take in the majestic views of the falls either from the nearby watchtower or the ramp. Don’t fail to visit the Panchmukhi Mahadev Temple, Ram Temple, and Banganga Mahadev Temple near the falls.
