Key reasons to Migrate Exchange to Office 365

In an organization, IT teams can eliminate the complexity and risk of deploying on-premises email solutions to the advanced and robust Office 365 messaging and collaboration infrastructure for their users affordably. Introduce new innovative productivity and collaboration tools to help redefine your productivity in other ways of working. Microsoft Office 365 is backed by a 99.9% financially backed Microsoft SLA to help users access their email and messages anytime, anywhere, on any device.

You can migrate all user mailbox emails, calendars, and contacts from your on-premises Exchange 2010 to Office 365 migration. Office 365 provides updates against new threats with built-in data loss protection. Office 365 is a secure environment with automatic and seamless security measures such as multi-factor authentication to ensure authorized access. Threat detection and anti-malware capabilities help you identify and stop security threats to your mailbox and effectively handle sensitive data and information.

Office 365 also has Exchange Online email archiving capabilities to meet corporate compliance, email security, archiving, and eDiscovery needs. Despite this rich set of features, Office 365 is easy to set up and manage and offers cost advantages. For these and many other reasons, there is a growing trend to move from on-premises Exchange Server to Office 365 environments.

Although these are convincing business cases, many organizations struggle to start or stop migration due to organizational complexity, compliance, general risk aversion, and security concerns. An on-premises migration to Office 365 usually requires thorough planning and preparation based on your current infrastructure, business needs, number of mailboxes, etc. Once you move to Office 365, you will get multiple benefits like the flexibility of working from anywhere with the help of a Cloud PC Services just with an internet connection without hampering your productivity.

Types of Migration to Migrate Exchange to Office 365:

Cutover Migration:

If you need to migrate from on-premises Exchange Server versions 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, or 2019 to Office 365, we recommend a cutover migration. This method may not work well for large mailboxes and may take a long time to complete the migration. You can migrate up to 2,000 mailboxes to Office 365 using this method, but Microsoft recommends a limit of 150.

Staged Migration:

A staged migration is recommended when moving mailboxes in stages or batches. It can move more than 2000 mailboxes, but it only works with Exchange 2003 and 2007 versions, migrating mailboxes to Office 365 typically over weeks or months.

Hybrid Migration:

Hybrid migration allows you to move mailboxes in stages. Here mailboxes are managed both on-premises and online and can be used to migrate 150-2000 mailboxes from any Exchange version to Office 365.

IMAP Migration

This migration type supports IMAP migration and can move users from Gmail and other email systems. It pulls information from your source mailboxes and passes it to Office 365. There is a limit of 50,000 total mailboxes and 5,000,000 items.

Conclusion:

Moving from an on-premises Exchange environment to a hosted Exchange infrastructure offers some benefits, such as greater flexibility, lower costs, and security, but it also comes with some drawbacks. Organizations consider all aspects, including migration plans, cloud provider security standards, and more.
