AirPods new software could fix connection errors

Apple has provided new software updates for the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro. The updates should arrive to all owners of the earphones over the next few hours or even days.

If you want to check which software version is currently installed on your AirPods, you need to connect them to your iPhone and then take a look at the Bluetooth menu in the iOS settings. If you tap on the small blue “i” next to the earbud entry, you will see the currently installed version number at the bottom of the subsequent menu. The new software versions are 4B66 for the AirPods 3 and 4A402 for the AirPods Pro.

The installation of software updates for the AirPods cannot be forced and usually requires some patience. In itself, the new version should install itself sooner or later. It may or may not help to use the AirPods with the iPhone for a while and then connect them to the power supply in the closed charging case.

New AirPods software, what’s new?

Apple rarely clarifies what improvements and bug fix the software updates for the AirPods bring. Looking at the current user reports, we especially hope for improvements in terms of Bluetooth communication. Since iOS 15, complaints have been piling up regarding unstable Bluetooth connections, and surprising dropped calls or interruptions when listening to music with the AirPods.

We reported on this just last week. For example, the AirPods apparently repeatedly lose the Bluetooth connection for numerous users or switch back and forth between several available devices without interaction from the user. As a result, this causes interruptions during phone calls or the use of audio applications.

Affected users can at least hope that the new software updates will improve this situation.
