In this day and age, so many products come with labels. From the food we eat to the clothes we wear, it seems like everything has a label attached to it. And if you’re like most people, you probably take for granted that those labels are always perfectly applied. But what if they’re not? What if you start seeing some tell-tale signs that your custom labels aren’t being applied correctly? Here are four of them.
- The corners are firmly pressed down
This is probably the most obvious sign that your labels are applied correctly. If the corners of your label are lifted or not firmly pressed down, then it’s a pretty good indication that the label wasn’t applied correctly in the first place.
For the best possible grip, avoid designing a label with too many sharp corners. Instead, opt for rounded corners or circle labels. The fewer corners your label has, the less likely it is to peel over time.
- The label is centered
Another tell-tale sign of a well-applied label is that it’s centered on the product. If the label is off to one side or the other, it’s a good indication that it wasn’t applied correctly. A centered product label is essential for two reasons: looks and legibility.
Putting your label firmly in the center of your product creates a sleek and professional look. It is also the prime spot for important information such as product names, your logo and unique selling points. It is what the consumer’s eye is drawn to first.
- There are no air bubbles underneath the material
If you see any air bubbles underneath your label, it’s a sure sign that it wasn’t applied correctly. These bubbles are usually minor dust particles that are caught underneath the material. They can cause the label to lift over time, so it’s important to make sure that there are none present.
When you notice them, use a squeegee or credit card to smooth them out. But to prevent them, be sure to clean the surface you want to apply your labels to thoroughly with an alcohol-based cleanser and a microfiber cloth.
- There are no fingerprints on your labels
If you see any fingerprints on your label, it’s another sign that it wasn’t applied correctly. These usually happen when the person applying the label presses down too firmly, or when you are working with a clear label.
Fingerprints can often be difficult to spot, so it’s important to inspect your labels closely. If you do see any, use a soft cloth dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol to gently remove them.
If you see any of these tell-tale signs on your labels, it’s a good indication that they weren’t applied correctly. If this is the case, you should take them off and start over. With a little bit of practice, you’ll be a pro at applying labels perfectly in no time!
